mist and fogger machines

I have never bought either one of these. usually I just use a spray bottle and poke holes from dixie cups and let them drip. I know what the difference is between them but my question is, is it necessary to have both? I'm looking to buy the Zoo Med Habba Mist machine soon for my new cage....check it out on my profile

Habba Mist doesn't have the best reputation. There are several members on this forum that sell misting systems... if you buy a Habba Mist I can practically guarantee you will complain about it.
They tend to squirt and spatter more than mist...

Invest in a humidifier and just hand mist for now, it will save you money. Once you have more than a few chameleons is when you could get one - or if you have the money now, go for it.

I am not a big fan of Habba Spit.
If you want to get a misting machine, get a mistking instead.
As far as a fogger, there is a better, more efficent, and cheaper alternative.
It's ultrasonic humidifier. Get one in your local walmart, target, or other stores.

i have a zoomed reptifogger and it works great it isnt timed but you can control how dense you want it and at full blast it will put so much fog in there you cant hardly see anything lol but ya mine keeps my cage nice and moist the only draw back is you have to change out the water everynow and then but the connector for the lid is the same a cap for a soda pop bottle so if you really wanted you could stick a larger bottle on if you have to leave for a long period of time

How often do you clean your cage of mold or something similar?

about every week and a half or so but have never encountered any thankfully sometimes the water pools and the bottom thats when it usually gets cleaned out

Foggers aren't typically required for most chameleons....are you sure you need one? Many keepers just drip and hand spray, misters are good for when you are gone, but not a necessity.:D

true which is why i dont take the wait and then clean approach and just do it when i start to see water in there

Mistkings are diggin deep into my wallet. So the Habba Mist is out for me. What's a good misting system that isn't to pricey?(under $100).

ghetto fogger

Its worth pointing out this great build thread on the type of fog system I use. Mine looks a bit more ghetto than the other builder...

edit: ... and yes, you do need a dripper and a fogger for many montane species.

I use the habba spit on both of my cages broke one in the first month, bad design. when you refill the unit and dont hit the hole just right the water runs down into the unit and gets on the electronics.(fire hazard) and they dont mist at all they just spit.

The system I've set up I bought everything for at Lowes. It consists of a pond pump (the size/output depends on how many cages you plan on 'connecting'), t-connectors, mist heads, a digital timer ( preferably one that has settings for multiple events and is programmable by seconds) and the appropriate sized hose. My pump has a pretty high output (300 gph). This is offset by the fact it only activates 5 times a day for 3 minutes at a time. It sits in a VERY CLEAN 5 gallon bucket and is refilled everyday and cleaned with a diluted bleach solution every 4 or 5 days, pumps, tubes and all.

The tubing is twist-tied in place and aimed in the right direction...

The 300ghp pump is powerful enough to produce a pretty fine mist for up to 4 of these 18"x18"x36" cages. The more cages you add, the more pressure you'll require.

He seems to like it...

Compared to 'Mist-king', I only spent about $50-60 as compared to $100+. I'm not knockin' Mist-King, their stuff was designed specifically for chameleons, but if you've got 4 kids and are somewhat on a budget such as I am, you tend to try to go the DYI route whenever possible. Just like these cages you see. I spent maybe a total of $150 on everything to make those cages, and I've got enough screen, screws etc. to make probably 2 or 3 more.

I paid 90 dollars for a habba mist and it is useless. I ordered a mist king and love it. They have the basic kit for 99.99 and can expand up to 20 nozzles. Instead of the no drip valve reliving the presser back to the reservoir I ran it to my dripper to help keep it supplied with fresh water.

jdog these are some good pics. I'm all for the DIY. I have 2 cages. So I think your way would work. If you could give me some specifics on the brand of pump and possibly how to piece it together that'd be great.

p.s. Your hand-built cages look nice. I just built mine the other day from wood.
