Missing a nail.

I feel awful at the momment. :(

I went to hand feed some silks to "Osang" my 10 month old Vield and realized she is missing a nail on her front claw...:( She has been moving about her cage non-stop for the past 2 weeks. I am guessing shes going to lay in the near future.(has a bin in already) She does laps around her cage quite fast, and then stops for a bit then resumes. The claw looks to be in perfect shape, no swelling and no signs of infection nor irratation. The nail is simply missing. The quick is in perfect condition from what I can see, is it possible for a new nail to grow? I know it is not going to slow her down as she has the G.I. Joe Kung Fu grip, but I really don't want her to loose another if I can prevent it. The cage is a soft sided, I believe you refer to them as Flexariums. I will keep an eye on her and see what happens.

hmm they really dont regrow their claws? i find that rather crazy. if it has a quick then it soul perform regular cell division, and slowly reproduce the calcium deposit we know as a toe nail...

If the whole thing comes out then yes they wont regrow.

Im not to sure what he means by the quick is still there. Anytime i have heard of a cham losing a nail the whole thing comes off.

I guess if the quick is still there it may grow back slowly....kinda like when you hit your fingernail with a hammer and it takes forever for the purple part to grow out haha

thats what i thought. i was finding it really weird if it didnt lol. they almost contained the secret to the fountain of youth =P

I worded that wrong, the area from which the nail grows from, at the end of the claw. Not the quick, as the quick would be incorporated in the nail itself. The socket from which the nail grows from is still in perfect condition, as if the nail was pulled directly out and done cleanly. I get that the nail will not return now. Thanks guys.
