meal worms

Hi,

The staple diet for my veiled consists of crickets & locusts, but he adores meal worms. How often can I supplement his diet with them & how many can I give at a time?

Thanks :)

Meal worms are not really a good choice of feeder. If your Cham likes the worms I would suggest you get some silk worms. They are very nutritious and can be used as part of a staple diet :)

You can give a couple mealworms a week.

they can just be harder to digest because of the hard exo skeleton.

Silkworms are the way forward, IMO. There are a couple of UK websites that post/ship them. PM either Angie or me for details if you like.

Thanks- I do have some silkworms but unfortunately they were much smaller than expected and didn't come with any food (I'm not particularly impressed with the supplier- they got inches and CM mixed up & they promised food). Neelix won't touch them, I think they're just too small for him.

I have calci-worms but have a simalar problem in that the petshop couldn't tell me what size they were before I ordered & they're tiny!

I've ordered some larger calci worms & I'll try a different supplier for the silkworms.

The mealworms I got for my pygmy hedgehog, so they certainly won't go to waste. I've never seen anything so excited by a worm lol
