males vs. females

I would like to hear from everyone what you do in reguards to supplimentation for females vs. what you do for males. Does anyone out there have a formula that you swear by to boost your females, especially for breeding? It just makes sense to me that if human women have different supplimental requirements before, during, and after pregnancy that the same should go for my cham girls! Lets hear your thoughts please!

I dont keep females. but. from what i have learned.
during egg production, many will give more calcium. right after laying, females get calcium enriched bugs, like calciworms, and more plain calcium. if laying really took a toll on them, some will even give liquid calcium.

I do extra calcium and multivite, and w/ my males i do a bit more color enhancers. we're going to try a pinkie mouse for our females after mating this your to see if that does anything for our egg counts.

i know not a lot of people are into it, we're just going to try it for this year and see how it goes. i havee a ton of them left over every week after feeding my snakes.

to much animal proteins can cause gout, a painful process that can lead to death for chams.

i think veileds are the only ones that can handle it however overall animal protein should be kept at a distance

if you want more egg production and stronger females

oustside sunlight
more food gutloaded extra carefully with high nutrients more assorted variety of fruits/veggies/ dinofuel/ cricket crack/ your own blend/ bug burger etc
a warmer basking light.
up the plain calcium intake but not too much
try dusting with bee pollen occasionally too

doing all of this alone can get you more eggs but can also speed up your female of aging and reduce her life generally is the basic idea

i just dont see why you would need to offer animal protein to an insectivore that sometimes eats vegetation

granted occasionally if starving would go for anything that moves but thats pushing it, it just seems odd if people say they eat other lizards or even birds in the wild then why not pinkies? well the lizards and birds that live in the wild along with chameleons also eat bugs. not that hard to figure out so if chams cant find bugs than i guess eaing another animal that eats bugs is the next best thing. if im wrong please correct me.

they are not like humans, we are omnivorous but not chameleons.

sorta like saying why offer meat to a herbivore like a goat or a horse....

at least that is how i see it

you can try and be curious im not gonna bash like other people

just suggest the cons out weigh the pros about offering pinkies to chams

Thanks for the info on gout, too much protein etc, I love to learn something new! Anybody else have something to add? Come on.....tell us all your suppliment views!

I like the bee pollen idea! it's just what we're going to try during breeding season, i just seem to have a hard time getting my females back on feed after laying. after talking it out with the hubby, we're going to try it after the first clutch. i just worry, they tend to go off feed 3-4 days before laying, then wait 1-2 days before eating again.
