Hi, is a 18" 18" 36" tall cage to big for a hatching size veiled. Do they grow fast and why does he hide in the foliage. He bask til he sees me then takes off in the foliage where you loose vision of him?

a baby that small should be left to hide in the fooliage and just do its own thing that sounds very ver young my veileds are about 3inch when they leave me. but just mist regularaly and keep the temps lower untill he gets to about three inches or so and then give him a bit warmer basking spot and gradually raise it over a year to reach 90 for a male and mid eighty for a femaleand i would make sure he/she has lots of foliage and cup feed for the first little while half of each feeding or all of it either way is fine but i think hunting for a baby in a cage that smale is a big chore!! hope this helps. oh and for now the basking spot should be no higher then 80 and dont set the light on the screen they will climb on the screen! i think i covered it. the best thing to do would be to fill out the how to ask for help form and some one or myself can fill in any blanks or changes that are noticed. again hope this helps.:)

they do grow fast!! and they hide in the foliage to have the feeling of security so he is just scared that will pass also in a few months. but the best thing is mist 3-4 times a day and have a dripper going twice a day atleast. lots of privacy is best for him at that small. sadly alot of pet stores gat them at 3-4 weeks old and are nowhere near ready for the stress that is caused by transport and all those people looking at you in a tank all day! so just be patient he will come around:)

Thank you for the advice I will try to cup feeding. I do have the lamp on screen I will use the clamp that came with the fixture. It's good he hasn't tried climbing the top yea. I actually mist 6 times a day drys very fast the foliage think its the heat running. I have a little dripper ill put that where he hides on top of that foliage area. Afraid he hides so good he's not getting the UVB light. I have seen chameleon same species just a little bigger then my little one at pet stores non stop. Feel bad for them but nothing I can do. I usually add 1/4 size crickets mist and do the usual check up make sure he's ok.

Chameleon - veiled male 2 months old not even a week in my care yet.
Handling - I haven't yet to small and just climbed out of cup.
Feeding - only crickets 1/4 size 12 daily and don't remove the crickets from cage. Gut load crickets 2-3 times weekly

Supplements - rep cal every feeding with calcium without d3 not sue with the d3 and herpivite at his age.
Drinking - I mist 4-6 times a day til leaves start dripping. Haven't seen him drink yet hides very well.
Fecal - white brown very small to say only one since last week.
History - none

Cage - 18" 18" 36" mesh
Lighting - 100 watt yellow Exo terra bulb and reptisun 10. 12 on 12 off 10am to 10pm
Temps - basking haven't checked and same for lower level of cage. Night time is 65.2 and I use digital probe Zilla temp and humidity.
Plants - right now for him none fake plants. Use golden pothos but has fertilizer pellets in the soil so I haven't added it yet. Til I figure out safe soil mix for chameleons.
Placement - near fireplace and little high traffic. Cage sits on floor not sure best area.
Area - Midwest central USA
