i have a red bar ambilobe panther chameleon roughly 8.5 months old and its been 2.5 days where he hadn't open his eyes. i have been getting Q tips and washing out his eyes and they still won't open and i don't what to do? he hasn't eaten since he closed his eyes. i use 2 75 watt eco terra basking lights on opposite sides of his cage, 1 18" reptisun 5.0 linear bulb, and i have a hubba mist that mists the cage for 45 seconds every 3 hours. what should i do? i really don't want to go see a vet because it cost too much money and they end up not knowing anything. pls help ASAP
thanks
Bryan

P.S.: latley I've been giving him rep cal herptivite w/ beta carotene and phosphorus-free calcium w/ VIT.D3. i give him to him when i give him crickets which is usually once every 3 weeks. i usually give him super worms and hornworms, but just got silkworms but he hasn't eaten one yet b/c of his eyes. What do you guys think i should do?

So, let me understand...he hasn't been getting any calcium until recently (as described in your P.S.)? Or, he got calcium and vitamins once every 3 weeks? If so, that's not enough and could be part of the problem.

What is the cage humidity range...right after the mister runs and how low does it get between misting cycles? Even with misting that often the cage may still be too dry much of the time especially in winter when the house is being heated. He may not be drinking enough either.

What are your cage temps? Using two basking spots may be drying it out too much and the cage may be too warm overall.

How old is your ReptiSun bulb? If it's over 6 months old, replace it.

How long have you had this cham?

i give him calcium once every three weeks, but thats because i usually give him hornworms and super worms which r high in calcium so i since the powder is mostly calcium i thought the worms would be enough cause they r high in calcium.

i don't know the exact temp or humidity is but my other panther who has the EXACT setup is perfectly fine so i dont think its that but it might. yesterday i just sprayed him down with water and he drank a lot so as of now it can't be dehydration.

my repti sun bulb is 2-3 moths old.

I picked up my cham december 15 or 16 bought him from a breeder. other than his eye he is perfectly fine he's nice and chubby and look perfectly normal except for his eyes.

So, you've had him just about a month. Time enough for husbandry problems to start showing up. If there is a big difference in the temp/humidity range in his new setup you'll see problems.

Calcium once every 3 weeks isn't enough regardless what insect you are feeding him. You should be dusting with plain (no D3) calcium every other feeding, use calcium with D3 about once every 10 days, and add a dusting of the Herptivite once a month. and, this schedule assumes you are gutloading your feeders very well too.

You need to know the humidity levels, believe me. Even if a cham drinks every time water is offered, if the cage air is too dry it can lose ground and become dehydrated anyway. If he drank a lot chances are he was pretty thirsty! It will take a while for him to re-hydrate himself so keep up the increased misting and learn what he needs. Spritz him with warm water slowly until he stops drinking. When he's had enough he'll tip his head straight up and turn away from the water. I find if I spray the surrounding foliage first it sort of gets them ready to drink (he may start reflexive swallowing and licking his lips). Then, dribble the warm water from above his head so it runs down his snout. Many chams start licking the water off their lips pretty quickly. Then continue to dribble water as he drinks.

Please post pics of the cham, and especially his house. Pics of Him and his setup would be very helpfull.
