MALE Calypratus, digging...

Is it normal for a male calypratus to dig in the dirt?

Today, I woke up at around 10 (I am on vacations  ) and when I got outside to check and feed my Calypratus, 8 months old, I saw a big hole in the one corner of the cage. The cage has dirt on the bottom and real plants in it.

Is this normal behavior, should I be worried?

So, maybe he was looking for humidity, more/less heat, or shelter from wind?
Yesterday evening it was a very hot night and windy here in Athens, it was about 37-38°C

I have had male & female veiled chams dig shelters to sleep in when kept outside. I've even had one who dug in a potted plant inside the house and slept there every night when free-ranged. Cheers!

Thanx guys :)
I was surprised, since he had never done this before. He used to sleep in 3 different spots, depending on the night temps.
