I just got my panther chameleon and he is in a 260 gallon 72h by 29l by 29 w
Reptarium off of big apple herp all the temps seem right but he's also not eating much if at all if only had him three days. What would I do?

stress should not cause a chameleon to close his eyes. Color changes and eating habits are more affected by stress. Closing of eyes can be a sign of illness. He could be dehydrated. Can you post some pics of him please.

I didn't know he meant during the day, and I know stress doesn't cause eye problems, vitamin A deficiency might, or something more serious.

One thing you might wanna consider is if the person who had it before you was on a different time schedule for lights. My light schedule goes from 12pm to 12 am and I have knowticed when taking in some chams that were on a normal daylight schedule(let's say 7am to 7pm) it takes them a little while to get used to my schedule. Chameleons are creatures of habit and they definitly seem to have some sort of circadian rythem. Most chams will go to their sleeping branch a little bit before lights out and wake up a little bit before the lights turn on so if your lights are on a different schedule than what he's used to he might just be getting used to things. I would contact the person before you ask them about their lighting schedule. If not you will definitly wanna look into this as chameleons should never have their eyes closed during the day. If they do it is a sign that the chameleon is ill in some way.

Hope everything turn out well,
-Alex

My iPad can't post pictures and my computer is broken. But the lighting and dehydration might be possible and no glass.

is he drinking? are his eyes sunken in? has he pooped yet..is his urate(pee) orange, yellow, white? Is your cham sleeping during the day? I am assuming that is what you meant by the title of your post

maybe he didn't! I am just assuminhg he meant during the day, cause it is normal for them to sleep at night and I don't think anyone would be posting a cham sleeping at night as a problem.

haha yes he is sleeping during the day, his eyes are not sunken in,no he has not pooped yet. if only had him 3 days should he have pooped yet?

088.jpg blah blah blah

he does not look dehydrated from that pic. What specific lighting are you using? uva and uvb both. Can you post a pic of your whole set up. It does not look like you have much foilage in there for him. Sometimes incorrect lighting can cause eye problems. No, if he is not eating, then he might not be pooping right now.

both its a solar glo 160 w by exo terra and i know i need more foliage and i am planing on going to get a live plant this weekend any suggestions on live plants to?

ok, so it is possible that the bulb could be bothering his eyes. I do not know much about this bulb but I do know that must of us use the Reptisun or Reptiglo 5.0 uvb either the tube or compact. In addition we use an ordinary white housebulb. Depending on your house temps will control what wattage bulb you need. you wanna get around 90 degrees for basking temp. What is the temp under the solarglo where you cham sits under the light. your branch should be about 8 inches down for basking. Does your cham close his eyes when he is out of the cage??? if not, then it very well could be the bulb irritating his eyes. plants...ficus, pothos, sheffelera, ficus benjamin, hibiscus

might be a little hot for him how far above the cage is the light? those should be about 10-12 inches above cage for basking spot of 90-95

foliage is very important using these bulbs i use them for my adult males panther and veiled and i use the two light system for my feales so i can keep there temps low. but my guys eat awsome with the solar glo and drink very well the uvb is very high and travels a long way like 12-18 inch minimum so 10-12 above shoul be sufficiant all bulbs are different in temps so you need to measure temps forsure in his basking spot i would try for like 88 or so not really 90's for a couple more months atleast

well I am glad you commented, cause I really do not know much about them and it is good to hear from someone that has. So if we can rule out the light causing the eye problems, then we can move onto something else. Would like to know though as I asked the OP if the closing is outside of the cage as well. Maybe some chams can be more sensitive to certain lights than others just like some people are sensitive to the sun more than others.
