making his last days better

:( I keep looking at Max, he is OLD, and REALLY slowing down - he tips over when he strikes his feeders I have to make a V with my fingers over his back for support or he just falls on his side , he is not sick, just OLD - no pain, but "crunchy" when he walks - he just saw the vet about a mo ago for his check up- he told me " he is just old, but is doing rather well for all things considered" but I can see a difference in the last few weeks- he lives in a "hammock" cage for his safety , he has to be put on his basking log ( he can move away if he wants ) but can not get up there on his own anymore - he may go on like this for a long time too ?? but he has started to choke on his food, swallow his tongue alot when he eats, his teeth are about black w/ age - he's an old guy - his weight is good still , but if I just start letting him eat only super worms , his fav :) how bad would that be for him ? he really has no apatite lately - I dont know if thats because about every roach he eats, he chokes on - so now he "fears" them ? but I just want him to be happy , but dont want to speed up the time he has left - I don't want to say he is in hospice care yet- but I fear he is not far from it :( but he also has really good days too - just not sure if letting him go on an all superworm diet will harm him ? what do you guys think ?

My old man "Arnold", who lived about a week past his 8th birthday, spent the last year of his life on only super worms. I didn't care if to was varied of even if it was the best of him. At his age he deserved what ever he wanted, and he got it. I have no regrets. I loved him all his life, anything I could do for him was going to happen. I really didn't and don't care what anyone thought.

I'm sorry to hear about Max. I have a senior citizen Nosey be also. I have been hand feeding him for about 8 months now. I give him multi vitamins and a drop of liquid vitamin C once a week and he's been feeling pretty good for an old man. Dr. Alfonso told me about the liquid Vit. C and he has had great success with it in snakes.

I am sorry to here about your old guy. I would be okay with feeding mine only super worms if it were HER last weeks or months. If it makes him happy then I definitely think it is fine.

I think you have to go with what he will eat. Maybe try those tasty silkies or phoenix worms. Should be easy for him swallow the small ones. :) I know what crunchy life is like. At 26 I was told I have the arthritis and scar tissue of a 67 year old. I dread winter. Good luck. I could maybe spare him some of my pain meds each month, if he wants (joke people :)). For every rescue, you should obtain two healthy, in order to keep from always experiencing loss. Gotta be hard on the heart.

sorry about your buddy,

I have a general question if your female lays eggs on her own without a male is it fertile? I hope I don't sound dumb,. this is my first chameleon.

Sorry to hear about old age. Yes vit. C is a great thing. I used it in one of my dogs with cancer and it really did help put the spring back in her step. After her surgery heal time was very fast as it was a long and hard surgery. For any of my pets that are at the old age with not much time left, they get whatever they want and all the help they need.

No they will be infertile. If you want to get more responses to questions, you should start your own threads. I am not trying to mean, just helpful. And you don't sound dumb, we all have to start somewhere. You learn as you go along,

So sorry to hear about your boy. I say let him eat whatever he wants- in my last days that is my plan as well. I will be eating a lot of cake and cheese, washing it down with a good chardonnay...

I will call my vet and see about getting the vit/ C - anything he needs :)
I just want him to be happy, he is the sweetest ol'e guy ever , like a kitten chameleon :p he likes to burrow down into my arms. he is the only cham I have who will SIT on me, the rest- all they want to do is get in my hair, and on my head  but I still love them too ;)
Thanks for your input everyone , I will let him eat "steak" from now on :)

I feel it's human nature to love our animals so intensely that we will do anything for them. It's always hard to watch them get old. Sounds like he has had an excellent life so far. Let him eat crem brûlée if he would like.

You can get the liquid vit. C at GNC online for sure or maybe your local store.

Give that sweet boy anything he wants and enjoy every single minute you have with him.
