Hi everyone, I am so excited to be a new owner of my veiled chameleon. Can I please get some suggestions on what else I need in the cage. I know I need more vines and plant, I have a drip system above my plants, a UVB 100watt light, and a red night light. Thank you

How old is your new addition? I started my baby veiled off with a 50 watt light, a 5.0 UVB bulb and the red night light is not needed.

I got rid of the red light and got a basking light the temperature under it is at 85-90. The only reason a had a red light is because the lady I got her from told me I needed it.

Most pets stores, not all, only know basic lizard care while chameleons are more complex. Common mistakes made because of pet store staff is telling customers to use night bulbs, glass tanks, water bowls, and coco fiber or other substrate. All of those are completely unnecessary and pose health risks. Chameleon need darkness to sleep that's why you don't need a light bulb. Glass tanks which I see you are using aren't pod unless it's an exo terra which give good ventilation, the problem is that for a veiled you have by the largest one to accommodate the chameleons large size so that's why people get less expensive screen cages because exo Terra's can get very pricey.

I do have a glass cage but the door and the top is screen it gets good ventilation, the temperature and the humidity is correct and I am only going to have him in the little cage for about a month. Thank you for your concern and information, I really appreciate it. I am a new owner and I am on here to learn and make my chameleons home the best for him. I know the pet stores don't know much about them, the cage they had them in is not suitable for them at all.

Also, when I had the red night light I turned it off at night because I knew they need complete darkness to rest. Sounds stupid I know, but I corrected the lights the next day cause I read all about what they need.
