Little Dripper question

So i'm in the process of setting up my vivarium and i just filled my little dripper with water, put it on the step outside and left it, basically to see how long it takes to empty it.

It's super hot and sunny outside today and after an hour or so the dripper stopped completely?

Would the heat have anything to do with this? I doubt it as it'll be sat somewhat near the basking bulb so it'll be warm anyway.

It was dripping at around 1 drip / sec when i started it.

It's brand new so doubt it's clogged already.

Any ideas?

Heat affects the bubbles thru pressure built up in the dripper and line. So, yes it can affect it when the temps go up and down. You just have to keep an eye on it.:mad:

I am actually having the same problem with mine. I will crack it open in the morning, and it will sometimes only drip for 20 minutes or so, so I have to watch it. Yesterday, I was able to get it dripping at a good constant rate for hours, but I wasn't able to duplicate again today. It seems very hit or miss, just keep an eye on it like I said. I will be switching to the ones they sell at my local pet shop soon, since those seem a little less cheap, and I see them working all the time when I go in there for their chameleons. After using the little dripper, I do not really recommend it to anyone who is looking for one who happens upon this post.

I'm just concerned with it stopping mid day whilst i'm at work.

I'll have to make sure I give it a good misting before I set off in a morning.

EDIT - now the sun isn't on it and it's cooled down a lot, it's working ok now.

I went ahead and bought a couple sprinkler valves from home depot, and some tubing to fit, then made my own drip system. Whole thing cost me about 2 bucks, plus a plastic rice container and hot glue that I already had.

It might be best to just make your own system. It'll be cheaper and probably will work better.

If mine stops I give it a good shake (not enough to spill water or scare my Cham, just a little) and turn the valve on all the way and then back off again

I find I have to adjust the flow in mine at times. Plus mine started leaking at where the container meets the start of the dripper, so i had to stop using it.

I have had issues with that as well. The nozzle control really doesn't give you much control at all. It is either on or off. If you have access to intravenous tubing you can modify it so it fits over the nozzle tip coming out of the dripper. I just put it in hot water so it was stretchy and enlarged it a bit and put it on the dripper nozzle. I opened the black nozzle control and then used the roller clamp on the IV tubing to regulate the flow. I eventually made rain circles out of 1/4 soaker hose tubing.

If you don't know anyone who could get IV tubing for you, it can be purchased (believe it or not) without a prescription on Amazon. as can the soaker hose. I will attach some pictures of my set up. I actually do not use it anymore as I upgraded to an Aquazamp.

If you set the Little Dripper to the rate that you want, then find something like a little cork to bung the end of the black tube up then you won't need to mess around with the flow using the tap to try and get it right. Works well for me.

I have a habit of flicking the tube w/ my finger to get any air bubbles out when I first start up my dripper. I did a version of what Ridgebax created, and have 4 nozzels is a circle kind of like she did. Flick the potential air bubbles out and you may find it working better.
