Lighting Question

Colorey

New Member
Hello Everyone,

First post, first time chameleon owner. I spent about 6 months reading this site and others before getting our guy who my daughter named Colorey the veiled chameleon.

We have a 24x24x48 screen habitat, lots of vines and a live hibiscus plant (Rosa sinensis). The lighting originally was a dual dome basking lamp and a
24" reptisun 5.0 fluorescent tube.

I recently changed part of the lighting. I have a 4 bulb HO T5 fixture, I put two reptisun 5.0 bulbs in the outer slots and two 10,000k daylight bulbs in the two center slots. Colorey has been way more active in all manners, climbing around the cage, feeding, etc. and the hibiscus is growing like crazy.

My questions, is this over kill? Should I go back to the single bulb UVB?

His habitat looks really good and a ton of light but I want to make sure its not too much.

Thanks,
Jared

im not the best reference but from spending the past 2/3 days reading mostly lighting I think it should be fine. as you said the plant growth is crazy now as it should be one reason why its suggested. but as long as there are shady spots for your cham to hide and theres a several inches away from where your cham can reach and the bulb should be good cant see nothing wrong. If anyone says differently it would prob to be to put another day time bulb and leave just 1 uv.

you said so yourself, your cham is doing much better

another thing 10,000k get more into blue light something around 6500k would prob be more ideal and represent the sun during the day. this is my knowledge hopefully some one else chimes is with more approval

dont know how to share thread but definitely check out believe its call the definitive lighting thread!! everything you must know.
ITS GREAT!
