Lighting Question UK

Hi guys,

This is my first ever post so a big hello to everyone from Norwich In the UK.

Im currently in the research/buying stage of getting a panther chameleon, I say "buying" as if I see I deal I will pick it up. I have purchased a X-tall large exo terra glass terrarium so far and am now looking for the next piece to the puzzle..... The lighting.

Now I absolutely love the tropic blaze that light your reptile sells but it appears it would be rather expensive to get it shipped over, I plan to have a bioactive set up with live plants so I like the quad set up to be able to have all the bulbs together, has anyone got any suggestions as to a good alternate lighting unit price is not overly an issue.

So far I like the look of

I also Like the exoterra quad but am unsure if this will be suitable for a bioactive set up due to light penetration ?

All in all I hope someone can help a new chameleon keeper out and hopefully point me in the right direction

Thanks Guys

Hi
Not familiar with those lights as they are for tanks.

I would get a basking spot bulb, then an arcadia t5 canopy or a zoomed.
Then a jungle dawn for plants.

Hope it helps

Thanks for that Dave, those were the only fixtures I could find that resembled the same sort of set up as the tropic blaze with the quad tubes so I can run an arcadia, 2 daylights and a original tropical arcadia for plant growth
I like the arcadia fixture but it is only a one lamp fixture.

Jungle dawns are the best led for plants in vivarium at the mo in my opinion.
All my vivs are bio and my plants do very well.
Some of my plants even flower :)

Yes that sounds ok. I think you do not need 2 x jungle dawn. You can try one first and see how it goes. That way the cham will have space on the top to get away from lights if he wants to.

I meant one hanger for the jungle dawn and one for the basking bulb, not two jungle dawns which would probs be far too much lol, It says it can penetrate 3 ft so one should be enough, It also says not to put it directly on the screen as it voids the warranty so thought it would be best on a stand ?

I misunderstood. Haha
2 would have been too much
One is perfect. The 40w is a bulb shape so yes you are correct. There are also stripes which I use and they are less powerful but work fine in my 3ft and 4ft high vivs.

awesome I think I will mount it in the middle to get a nice even spread and if it is on a stand I can even raise it to cover more, and then I will put the basking in a corner so he has a toasty corner to go warm up, and then the arcadia 90 cm canopy t5 across the front of the terrarium.

Yes. The important thing is to get a gradient in uv and heat so the cham has got space at the bottom to get away from it and also on the top branches.
