It is morning, the sun breaks through heavy morning fog, oh how i love the sun..It is the only companion of the solitary chameleon such as myself. But i have thing's to worry about in this rough neighborhood. The birds are already circling ominously, sunning to get energy to snag a quick meal, usually picking on chameleons. Again i must defend for my life, again the struggle begins, my scars still burn fresh with trauma from my last encounter with the birds. I had been snagged up by a bird that had been following me around for hours. Again and again i evaded him, again he failed, this bird was ravenous and would not falter. Fatigued by constant attempts i slipped up and the bird landed its sharp claw at the base of my tail, i fought hard, i never gave up i bit once, miss! i bit once again another failed attempt, breathing hard i went in for the last attempt before i lost all hope, my bite landed on a thicket of hard scaly skin i bit hard and the bird finally dropped me my descent was fast, i snagged my tail on a branch and hurriedly rushed up, still instinctively gaping wide. I respired hard while still looking to the sky, i felt so wronged. And here i am, again defending my territory. The day's proceedings went without incident. Warm tropical rains easing my worries bringing the fond and familiar scent of fresh fertile earth and the scent of sweet wet pine , i lazily lapped up all the water i could and ate my fill of invertebrates that tried to escape the water by climbing up tree's. My time here is short i am five in a half years old and my time is coming faster everyday. I roost on a branch that i have been going to all my life since i was a hatchling, grateful that i have survived the day and will live to see the familiar crack of light through heavy mist once again.
If you have a story to tell of how you think life is for a chameleon anywhere in the world big or small we'd like to hear them so maybe we could come up with our very own tale of the chameleons struggle for life and habitat.
