My panther layed an infertile clutch almost a month ago, looked skinny after laying as usual, but I found one random egg on the bottom of her cage yesterday. Is this normal. She looks great and has been eating well but the single egg seemed odd.
Yes, she laid in her sand-soil laying bin about three or four weeks ago. This was one random new egg I found on the bottom of her cage just yesterday. Do they sometimes not lay all eggs at once or have one remain inside after laying a full clutch???
Is she tame enough to palpate her? If so I'd do that asap. If I felt anything abnormal( Basically little marbles) I'd go in for x-rays to see if any are left over in there. Dont wait too long you dont want to let her get eggbound and weak. She may have to take a shot of oxy to expel the rest of the clutch. If you wait too long the oxy isnt effective. Then its surgery as a last resort.
Im saying its a definite possiblity. I would palpate her first too try to determine if there are. I know no one wants to hear vet or x-rays but if I felt anything hard and round floating aound I'd be making an appt.
Not trying to say I know for sure whats going on with her. But she could eat and drink fine and still have an egg or two left behind. You wont see signs of distress until she's in really bad shape. Its in their dna to hide illness and injury to keep from showing signs of being an easy prey target.
