LED lights and open frame fixture :)

I was going to post this in the pygmy enclosure section, but thought LED lights would be great for any enclosure for plant growth. :)
I bought 2 Jungle Dawn LED bulbs from CanvasChameleons for my Pygmy Baby tanks. (Don't have any babies or eggs, but wanted to be ready ) I was talking to Kyle about not liking how the exoterra hoods cover so much of the nano's top screen. I wanted to be sure that there was enough air circulation, so I wanted more of the screen to be open. So CanvasChameleons came up with an ingenious idea, an open frame light cage. :D
I think they're fantastic. It doesn't block the air flow, which is great for the small tank and the LED bulbs. They got here super fast, and were all set up and ready to go. :)

The plants are doing terrific! I even have a small piece of moss that is staying nice and green. I've been watching the temps, and they're right where I want them.

I like it- It looks great - I am so terrible at keeping plants alive - I got a fixture for one of my new cages from Canvas (and a new cage) and I can't wait to see if I can finally keep a plant alive -

I think you're really going to like it. My ficus, in the more densely planted cage, hardly dropped any leaves at all! I think it dropped 4, and that's after being washed and planting it in the tank. :) I wish I could take better pics, the light really makes the colors look nice. It "pops" without being too bright.

Melissa, your nano cage looks GREAT! I’m so glad you like the fixtures. Your future babies are going to love them!

The Jungle Dawn LEDs are really one of the best forms of light you can get for your plants. They can pump off a ton of light for such a low wattage bulb. I think we should start calling these LED’s and fixture combo the Plant Saver, as they can be placed virtually anywhere on top of the cage and will flood all the plants below with the beneficial lighting they need.

Thanks again for helping us test out these lights and confirming the temperatures they produce within the cage. It looks like these lights are the perfect fixture for Pygmy cages as they only raise the ambient temperature about 5 degrees at the screen top which keeps the temperatures within the cage perfect for Pygmies.

If there is interest from others we would love to try and develop some for the longer 13” Jungle Dawn bulbs as well. These could be place on top of larger screen cages to create a full spectrum lighting environment.

Melissa. I'm so happy everything is working out for you with the fixtures! Those Jungle Dawn push out a ton of light and make your Nano vivs look amazing!

Thank you, Nick. :) I am thrilled with these lights and fixtures. The light, colors they bring out and lack of heat produced are PERFECT for pygmies. I wish I had a better camera, it looks even better in person! And thank you for letting me test out these fixtures, they're the exactly what I needed for these enclosures. :)

Thank you, Kyle. :) I'm super happy with how everything is turning out. The lights were the perfect solution to lighting the nanos. I don't think anything else would've been able to produce the quality of light without frying the tank. By the time I have babies to put in there, they should be mini jungles. :D

I'm looking for this light on Canvas Chameleon's website but I'm having a hard time find it. Might you be able to post a link? I would love to have one!

Bonnie, shoot me a PM or email and I can give you some more details. I don't have them up on the website just yet.

OH wow!

Those are super clever fixtures for using a Jungle dawn LED!!:D

And they are open and that is always good when ANY LED can dissipate heat.

After seeing how cool those fixtures are -- I am "beaming" like a jungle dawn LED!:D

They look to be a very clever design and well made!

I bet you will sell tons, and ficus and hibiscus and pothos everywhere will rejoice!

Cheers
Todd
