Kyros after a shower.....

It was a beautiful sunny day today. I took Kyros, my male Veiled out for a shower and a spell in the solarium. He hates being handled. He's a wild caught import that I've had for a year. I see him happily basking in his cage every time I enter his room. If I walk towards his cage he moves to hide behind a plant. He will snap up big silkworms or hornworms I hold in my fingers from behind the plant. I only handle him for a health check or occassional shower. He has a few battle scars and missing nails from his previous life in the wild. The nails he has left are very long. When I do handle him, he grips my hand so tight that I can barely pry him off. I get a shredded hand in the process.

Here he is after his shower:

Here he is sucking in his stomach when I come too close:

Kyros has three girlfriends. The oldest, Olive, just laid her first clutch. She and another younger female, Yasmin, were collected in the wilds of Florida. Clingy, another young female, was captive bred by Ren who belongs to this forum. Here is miss Clingy:

Wow-is he gorgeous! The Florida WC that I see just glow and have an intensity in color that I do not see in CB animals. I love the dark markings on his face!

wow! PardalisGirl you are truly lucky...or fortunate. maybe both:p
That is an awesome veiled!
I really wish i had a good camera to capture all of Igor's colors.
I agree with juli the darks are awesome.
Something about a mixture of blues and blacks is freaking awesome!
I want a wild caught veiled so bad, butI'm not sure if the risk is worth it.
Seems like your odds worked out pretty good!:D

My Kyros......

I'm not sure how old he is. He was an mature adult when I got him a year ago. I'm guessing he's about two years old. Two of my females are wild caughts from Florida. They do have beautiful deep olive green coloring. Kyros was imported to the USA from Yeman. I've read other people's posts regarding some confusion over Veiled species. It sounds like there are a couple of species/locations in the Mideast for "Veileds" which end up getting cross bred in captivity here. He was very thin, mean and not nearly this nice looking. He had lots of nicks and scrapes too. He was at a prime breeding age and I can imagine he did some fighting out there in his original home. He went through the whole parasite treatment program I do for wild caughts. It was a good six to seven months and several sheds before these bright colors showed up. Most of the nicks and scrapes healed. It took that long for him to get acclimated and comfortable with his life. I think he is "happy" with his life other than today's photo shoot. He's still a little pissy but I'm content to just look at him.
