i left my veiled eggs open to normal room humidity for about 48 hrs on accident a few weeks ago, now they look like this. I think the tops dried out. I'm pretty sure I killed them all but are is there any hope of saving them?

Keep them. You never know. You might want to take an eye dropper and drop a little water in around the eggs but not much and be careful not to drop any on the eggs,

What was the accident??
Never throw out eggs until they are absolutely not good...and those aren't there yet...IMHO.

Well that's a mistake I made too, my first time at this. So something else I've been meaning to ask is why do we even dig them up? My enclosure is as close to natural as you can get. If she finds a place she feels is suitable to lay shouldn't they hatch on their own?

You said..."'I've been meaning to ask is why do we even dig them up?"....if you leave them in the cage they usually dry out or get saturated and you can't control the temperature properly...so artificial incubation gives the best chances of success.

Byn spacing the eggs apart in rows in the incubating container you also give them a chance to hatch when they are ready instead of forcing them all to hatch at once like they do in the wild.
