I got interested in chameleons when I was living out in Hawaii. My landlord wouldn't let me have a cat...or a rat...but she would let me have a chameleon. So my boyfriend and I did our research and he built a beautiful cage for the chameleon that had an open door so he could free range (which, oddly enough, he rarely did - he loved that cage).
We went to the pet store and we were looking at the cage full of Jackson's and I kinda felt bad for all of them. They had stuffed about a dozen jackson's in an 18x18x24 cage!!!!! However, this guy kept looking at me, like "save me! please!" So I did (and in Hawaii, a Jackson sells for anywhere from $10 to $20, so at that price, I couldn't NOT save him).
He was probably about a year old when we got him and he lived for another four years beyond that. This was taken a year before he passed, but this is the reason I fell in love with chameleons. Karma had big ol' horns and was one of the most docile chameleons I ever met. He loved crickets and cockroaches.
