Just want to know

I am getting a new Veiled Chameleon in a couple of weeks, and I just want to know do I have to have real plants in there? I heard they sometimes eat the plant but I want to stick to fake ones but I don't want him to try to eat the fake ones so do you think it will be a problem if I have all fake plants or you think he will be fine?

If you decide fake over real..When scouting good fake plants. Seriously grab the leaves and try to remove them with force. If you can break offf or remove any of it it. Then i would deem it unsafe for my crew.

So if he can don't rip them off then that's good ok thanks and would I have to feed him any type of plant in the future or are insects totally perfect for a Veiled Chameleon?

You will eventually get real plants I promise.. u realize the size of cage they will need? As an adult? U've come to the right place for research.. make sure u really focus on researching supplementing, lighting, misting, gutloading, temperature and humidity, and wat feeders to add for variety..

Also my male veiled loves to eat romaine lettuce. And his pothos plant. Also real plants help with humidity and hold water drops for drinking far better.

Yes I do I used to have a panther chameleon and now I am getting a veiled chameleon and really that's awesome I will try and feed him it sometime and yes they do need a never large cage and ok we'll thank you I will go with real plants when he comes an adult thank you so much

My veiled has 'taste tested' all real and fake plants in her enclosure! As soon as she did that she realised which ones were fake and just continued to eat the ficus. But she stopped eating the ficus when we started putting veg in for her. You could try to provide some leafy greens if you don't want him to eat the plants.

i use a mixture of real and fake. fake for the hanging vines he seems to climb on loads. hes a big bugger and tends to demolish the foliage quite quickly with his tramplings. i have a ficus, hibiscus and umbrella plant on the bottom of the cage to give him some cover from about 2/3 of the way down as he likes to hide out there sometimes. he'll eat the hibiscus flowers but doesnt touch anything else.

Wow thanks guys you are the best I am going to offer him leafy greens and when he gets older add real plants thanks guys you are the best

Haha my guy does that too. I've seen him eat some of the pothos one time. Sometimes he tries to eat the plastic plants in his cage but he can't get close to getting them off :D (I use Exo Terra plastic plants).

What can I use for the bottom of the cage I just don't want to leave it bare is there anything I use at the bottom of the cage like fake moss or something?

Honestly it is way worth it to get a real plant, helps a ton with humidity and provides a lot of foliage for them. My Veiled likes to hide without the branches and heavy foliage when she is looking for somewhere to take a squat for the night lol I love the moment when she peaks her head out to see if I have found her yet. So funny.

NO moss. That can cause impaction if the cham swallows it. I put paper towels to catch feces and excess water.

Yes that isn't really appropriate for Chameleons. What I do for my enclosure is take a large enough bin for my ficus(the plant pot) to fit into and put that into the bottom and put paper towel around the rest of it. That way it gets all the water from, well...watering it lol and you can get all the poop on the paper towel around the edge.

Wow thanks guys you have been a real big help I will definitely add real plants but for now when I get him I will just have fake ones but thank you you guys are awesome :)

No problem glad i could give you advice and help you enjoy your investment in an awesome pet, but even with a lot of research we can find holes in our knowledge, only experience will help. I myself am new to chameleons but besides my Veiled i have 10 other reptiles so it helps me know what i am getting into..sort of :p lol
