has anyone ever thought of opening their own pet store and take care of all the animals the correct way and give the correct advice? i know this is an issue with big chain petstores and there's not too many small pet business around anymore...i think i may want to start one in the future (would give me plenty of reasons to never have too many pets

The chain stores run all the mom and pop stores out of business. We had the best pet store ever - they had a big variety of animals and took care of them properly and would make good recommendations when people bought them. The owner said it was bad enough that the Petco was just down the street and then Petsmart rolled into town and they just couldn't compete.

I considered it, but I would go out of business in no time at all because I would refuse to sell to all the morons! They'd have to go through a class with me for the more difficult ones so they'd just go buy it elsewhere. It would be great if there was a good store with good people, but the people buying would be out of your control. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.

ive been considering it i live in a large town and still have to drive 20 mins with no traffic and im close .....
some have to g real far there wa oe but i think it was too big... id like to have one specializing in reptile and birds n stuff leave the dogs n cats to petsmart.

one of my friends is going to work at petsmart before he opens his own store so he gets experence + can change that petsmart for the better. i liked that idea.

im going to work at petco starting in march hopefully in the reptile and aquatics dept.

That's great that your friend wants to work for a big chain store and give the correct information and help to customers. I really hope that he can. Unfortunately sometimes these big stores have their way of doing things and selling products that they dictate to employees that needs to be provided for pets... even if long time keepers know better. I mean they insist that their employees need to sell Calcium D3 and tell people to use it on every feeding for their reptiles. We know better but that is what their boss tells them to sell. If your friend is working the job in hopes of helping that awesome!!!! I just hope he doesn't get fired for not doing it their way.

i recently started a job at the local pet store, mostly to keep the chams and help out with reptiles. its nice to help people get things going right the first time.
help pay for all my animals as well
