Japanese Beetles, safe or not?

Tis the season for the Japanese beetles. Are they ok for my guys to eat? They are all over the place, and if they aren't safe, I need to keep my guys inside.

They are, thankfully, not available where I live. But I did read something last year about someone in the southern USA who was feeding them to turtles and fish.

From what I recall (and I have nothing to back this up, so take it with salt)
There is a concern with pesticides/insecticides - some of which are slow acting. Japanese beetles cover considerable distances on wing, so even if where you collect them is "safe" its hard to know they werent in contact with something nasty the previous day. So you'd want to hang onto the beetles for a few days before feeding off.

They also have strong spiny legs that could cause mouth scratches (or if you chameleon doesnt chew well, even digestive track injury).

This person says they are on the "no" list: http://www.harpymusic.com/wildinsects.htm
