Jacksons or Vieled?

I have wanted a Jacksons chameleon for a month or two now but I am slowly drifting towards a veiled chameleon. They are cheaper but they need a bigger setup. What do you think?o_O

Jacksons are a more fragile and need much higher humidity then a veiled. It might be best to get a cham that is more suited to the environment in your house. What is the average temp and humidity in your house?

Jacksons like it cool and humid and veileds like it warmer and humidity between 50 and 70 percent. I suggest before you decide what to get to buy a digital humidity gauge and see what your houses humidity is. Jacksons need that higher humidity of 60 to 80 percent.

Ok thanks

I have seen a lot of people on here get a Jackson and then have a hard time keeping the humidity up for them because they did not check before buying.

I would probably go for a panther or veiled if I had to do it all over again but I do not in any case regret purchasing a jacksonii... It's just that I spend so much more time amd money on my jacksonii than I do on my other reptiles... I have to keep him cool at night so the living room isn't a good place for him so he has his own room... I will probably buy an AC for the guy so he is expensive too...
You know what they say tho; 'once you go jacks you never go back' ;)

You'd want the same size cage for a Jackson's anyway as can be very active chameleons.

Veileds are very cool, with a lot of personality. They can be very pretty, too, with great markings. I wouldn't over think the type of chameleon too much. You'll fall in love with your little guy regardless of the type. Plus with veileds, you can find captive bred males much easier. Save a little bit of money on the animal and reinvest it in good quality enclosure and supplies.

JACKSON'S ROCK! I have more than 30 Jackson's...all three subspecies. I have had 2 Veiled chameleons but prefer Jackson's. There needs have not been difficult to meet especially in the rainy Washington State weather. I think you need to go with your heart. Decide which one appeals to you most then learn everything you can about it. Buy it, care for it, learn from it, enjoy it. Then save up and buy one of the other species 6-12 months from now. Chameleons are truly addicting.
