Jackson shedding question...

Hi all,

My jackson started to shed a little the other day, but only around his head area. I dont really remember them this way, but his horns looked a little lighter in color than I remember. Anyway he started to shed, its been a few days now and some of the old skin is still hanging around. Specifically around his horns, the old skin has that whitish color, but the skin hasnt broken.

Hes been rubbing his head on different things in his cage, is he just trying to help along the shedding process? I feel that this few days has been a long time. Hes shed a few times since ive had him over the past year and shed times have always been different.

Ive been misting him a little more than normal thinking that this might help.

Also, a few months ago I bought something called Tropical mist, humidifying spray from Zilla. Anyone have any thoughts on using this?

Any comments are appreciated

My Jackson had a shed stuck on his head near his horns for over two weeks once. I just misted him directly with warm water a little more than normal and eventually it fell off.

Oh yeah that's totally normal. I've had my veiled for a month now and he's never fully shed his head since I've had him. It takes them a while... The light colored horns may just be growing some more (?) or maybe they shed too (?) I don't know much about Jackson's but my guy rubs his face on things too. He also reaches up with his back leg and scratches his casque with it LOL. I mist heavily while they're in their "big shed." I don't use that tropical stuff... I just go with what nature gave us... H2O :)

Don't mist directly unless by some chance your cham likes it. This is normally very stressful and can get your cham sick.

Its funny you post this. My Jackson is doing the same right now and I'm using the exact same tropical mist you talk about. I'm sure everything is fine.

matt, adult chameleons often shed a bit at a time while young chameleons often just shed their whole bodies in a matter of hours. It's not uncommon for someone who's had a chameleon since it was little to be concerned when the shed starts taking forever.

ive only had my chameleon for about 2 weeks, but I have other lizards. For example, my Mali Uromastyx doesnt shed like a snake all at once, he molts kinda. The shedding process takes a few weeks and it only goes piece by piece. I always assist in the shedding by coaxing him with a grub and then pulling his skin off for him. Best time to take photos is right after the shedding!
