Jackson doesn't know how long his tongue is?

So I got a new jackson's cham last thursday and he has been doing great, drinks and eats just fine and is fairly active.
I do have a question though, I have seen him multiple times go for a cricket that is out of reach of his tongue and yet he keeps trying to get it without moving from where he is at. Is this normal?

If the tongue doesn't shoot out all the way he could have injured it or could have some other health issue that is making him miss the prey.

My jackson chameleon actually does something similar. The only difference with yours is that once he misses he realized he needs to get closer so he will walk closer. I'd recommend hand feeding if it is a big problem, or cup feeding. How old is he?

I've found this to be common in my babies, but they all walk closer to the target and shoot again. I wouldn't worry about it as long as he is still eating.
