iUCN ...red list of endangered species...

That is an interesting page I have gone through that page more than once. The IUCN has Calumma parsonii listed as being a near threatened species the second least threatened listing. However concerns remain. I would prefer the new quotas only export juvenile and sub adult wild Parsonii for quotas for the trade. That would allow the adults to stay and breed in the wild. Or start having authentic reptile farm breeding being done from farms in Madagascar to supply the quota for Parsonii, or ranching Parsonii to supply the CITES quota of 300 Parsonii a year. 300 Parsonii is not many. However farming and ranching for the quotas would keep more wild chameleons in the wild.

Thanks for posting the page Kinyonga.

Farming chameleons for export is not allowed in Madagascar.

Craig

That does not mean farming or ranching chameleons for export cannot happen in the future. I think farming or ranching chameleons for export would be ideal. Olaf Pronk has said he has bred Calumma parsonii parsonii for a long time now and he exports chameleons.

I spoke to Olof about this in February when we were met him in Madagascar. He told me he thinks there would be to many abuses if farming was allowed.
