My Panther Leonardo needs some more food, so I'm going to order some crickets today. However, I want to vary his diet some by buying either some silkworms or hornworms. He's 4 months old and I don't know which would be better to buy and how to care for either of those. I was wondering what you experts would suggest and whether you could supply me some links on care for them (I don't want to breed them, just house them). I was also wondering how big they are and how long they can last.

I just need information on hornworms/silkworms and I don't know which to order for my cham.

Thank you.

Not an expert...but 3 1/2 month old eats 3 week crix as his staple, with 1 to 2 supersworms a day.(Loves the Superworms) When he has "fun in the sun" whatever flies he eats are his snack. Theres three dif feeders...this should vary his diet enough. Hes only four months...he doesnt kno much..so let him get tired of them first. If not...Silkies..havent tried em yet cuz im low on funds...but hear they are more than perfect. Oh yea...Roaches. Just look up fat/protein ratios before so you can balance his diet.

I have done that already and the silkies would work well. I usually have him outside for 2-4 hours a day and he catches a moth or whatever flies by. I'd still like to get the silkies though.

Thanks alot you guys

New Food :)

Silkworms and hornworms are both excellent choices. If you live on the West coast I would try Mullberry Farms. If you live on the East coast I would try Coastal Silkworms. I try to get my feeder insects from the closest source so they don't travel as much. Mullberry Farms also carries Butterworms. They are high in calcium too. They are not very expensive and very easy to keep ( you don't have to feed them or clean their container). I always have a container of them in my fridge. A few of my chams don't like them but most of mine love them. All of my picky eaters seem to eat them too. Roaches are great too. Search out the really good threads on this site about them :)
