noe he is all dark brown hanging near the vent on the door of the terrarium

waht is the wattage of your light?
SOmetimes if it is too intense, or too new, or not a particular type, it can hurt the chams eyes.
Pls post the brand and other info on the bulb

i think its the heat from the light light he was comfy with just a 5.0 spiral uvb he was actualy realy happy with that i think im going to get him a spiral 2.0 uvb tommorow and see if that helps hopefully

There is some controversy regarding some of the spiral bulbs harming the eyes of chameleons. Try and stick with a 2.0 linear if you can. Also, he may feel comfortable once you put more plants in for him.

scheffelara, pothos, and hybiscus i know are good for them. they provide cover and are good for munching, there is a list on here somehwere that lists all cham safe plants.

I have always used 5.0 spirals bulbs on my Pygmy colonies. If he is hanging out by the vent it is probably a heat thing. What temps are you keeping him at? Also trying reading my blog. It may help by creating shade on the lower half of the tank. you'll understand if you read it. What size is the terrarium? Looks kind of small. Is it a nano?

Jay, this is the person i told you about pn the phone. He knows about pygmies

Im sorry I retract my staement. I dont use spirls anymoe. I use to use the 5.0exo terra's. I currently use Zoo Med 5.0 reptisun's so they aren't technically spiral. I didn't make the change because I had problems though. I have a friend that sold me 26 of them for extra cheap so that's why I use the Zoo Med's.

I was gonna add this as well... From what I understand about the "compact" controversy it has to due with bulbs like the reptiglo, the 5.0 reptisun isn't technically one of those in question and I actually use one of these for Herbie and it IMMEDIATELY ended a hunger strike... It also has to do with the domes... If the dome is too "directional" and small it will beam the light right at the chams without spreading it out over the area of the cage as it goes through the mesh... The dome I use is 10" in diameter for my reptisun and I have zero eye problems.. Though I don't raise pygmy's I just thought I'd throw my two cents in on the "compact" debate

I use the exo terra compact lids on all my terrariums w/ pygmies. I even use one on top of my reptibreeze for my dwarfs. It seems to work fine as I have never had a problems.
