is this an Ambilobi or Ambanja Panther Chameleon?

Hi. I am new to Chameleons and this forum. I bought this guy as a 7 gram baby 3 months ago at a Repticon show from a private breeder. At the time I only knew the Panthers got the bright colors so didn't ask what locale it was from. Can you tell by the picture if he is an Ambilobi or Ambanja? He just got this orange color after the recent shed about 2 weeks ago.

Thanks

Tom

Yes it is a male. I did ask that. I double checked and he has the little dip/bump at the base of his tail where it would be smooth if it were a female, correct?

Thanks for the input. I was unsure about the locale but I haven't seen any red/orange Ambanja. not to say there aren't any. I also read that the Ambilobi have shorter noses than Ambanja. Wasn't sure if that was true or not.

I'm really curious, not doubting, just curious. Do you have a side shot of his fella? With the base of his tail?

Here are all the pictures I have of him. He is sleeping right now, so I can't get any good tail pics. The last 3 pics are from before his color change about 2 weeks ago.

Man, I can certainly be wrong, but I'm thinking that you have a beautiful girl! I'm not seeing a bulge (looking from my iPhone)... Maybe someone else can correct me if I'm wrong?

your chameleon is a female. The coloring is 100% female and yours does not have the hemipenal bulge that males have. The bump you are talking about is the vent and all chameleons have that whether female or male.

I hate to break the news, but I thought the coloring was off for a dude. Sorry man, but she's a beaut!

Look like you have a nice healthy looking female... As for locale I can't guess that because all panther females look very close in color and shape.....

LOL, I am not totally surprised that it is a female. I was wondering about the peach hue. I am not totally disappointed because I wanted to get a mate for him/her. I would rather have a female now because she will be ready by the time I get a male. What is your opinion on the Locale? Ambi or Amba? I just want to get an appropriate locale mate for it. I will get better tail shots and post them tomorrow morning just to be 100% sure it's a female.

I only paid $125 so either way I got a good deal I think.

Thanks for the feedback

Good score with that pricing! she is very pretty!

Thanks :D I had just walked over from a table that was selling babies for $350. so when I saw this one for $125 I just bought it and didn't ask as many questions as I normally do. this one was the only one left, so I literally said I will take it. The private breeder was sharing a table with some friends because he didn't have a class iii license. I didn't get his number so I can't ask him more questions about the parents. I have seen the breeder at previous shows, so I will see him again. He is a nice guy and sells live vivarium plants and has very high quality stuff. I don't usually buy from people who are questionable, so I feel good about the quality. Someone at the show asked me where I bought the Cham and they said they know the breeder and have seen the adults and they are beautiful animals. I just wish I knew for sure of the locale.

I hope that you can get a hold of him and hopefully he'll know her locale. U def got a great deal!

I would find out what she is if possible before you find her a mate that way you know what you are getting when you breed them .

Yes, I agree that I should find out the locale before choosing a mate. With a little effort I may be able to track the breeder down. We have a Repticon fire show in September and a regular Repticon in December so I know he will be there if I don't track him down before.

I just remember his name. His name was Jeremy Maley from My Jungle Herps. He is actually on this forum. I just emailed him. I hope he is still active. Do any of you know him?

you don't need to post any more pics! its is 100% female~~~~

It is no doubt a female and the orange/peach colors means she is receptive. Expect eggs in the near future even if she is not mated with a male. Hope you track the bloodline down. She is definitely a super nice and healthy looking female.

Unfortunatley, without knowing the blood lines, you cannot tell what local it is.

Females from all panther locales look basically the same.

I would try to contact the seller and see if they know, but without that informatin from them, all you know is yo uhave a female Panther.

Now you could breed her and see how the males turn out, but thats taking a risk if you dont guess the right male to breed her with.
