is this a good perlite for incubation?

i bought perlite from Home Depot...they do carry plain perlite

Do you not have any stores near you ... such as hardware or gardening stores? Any gardening centre would carry vermiculite! You must be able to buy plants and gardening supplies somewhere not too far away.

so i ordered the hatchrite and its only coming on monday so would it be a good idea to keep the eggs in my boiler room the temp is 80.4F or should i put them into a closet where the temps are 76??this is just until monday and when the hatchrite comes ill tranfer the eggs into two separate containers and keep them at around 69-74

Hey Apple,
Well I'm not sure about the temps for Flapneck chams. I think on one of the sites it said something about 20 - 26 celsius which would be approx. 68 - 78 fahrenheit. So I guess using that guideline your closet would be better but you should probably talk to somebody that's bred these before!! I wouldn't think that 4 or 5 degrees would make too much difference unless it's far too warm for them.

Decide where you are going to keep the eggs for the duration of the incubation (either the closet or the boiler room) and keep them there until Monday when the HatchRite arrives. That way, you don't have a severe temperature fluctuation switching from room to room.
If the boiler room is at 80F and the closet being 76F, I would probably choose the closet for the eggs myself. HOWEVER, if this closet is opened and closed frequently - perhaps being accidently left open, causing temp swings and light penetration - then I would use the boiler room!
Are the eggs still on the sand? If so, transfer them gently to the lightly moistened Perlite you bought yesterday until the HatchRite arrives next week.

Keep them where? In the closet? On the sand?
I know I said I'm not keen on that Perlite you bought only because I'm unsure if the plant food additive would leech into the eggs and cause birth defects or death. I guess I figure that's better than the sand for a few days.
I understand your concerns about not moving them too. I guess it's your call on what you want to do. I'm pretty sure the sand wouldn't be that harmful either until Monday.

I believe that I've mixed vermiculite and sand in my hatching medium for my veiled eggs. At least in one of the containers anyways. Is there a problem with sand?? I figured it would help to hold the moisture better and the vermiculite would help fight against mold / bacteria.

ok so i have a lil problem i dont have a place i can put the eggs...in my boiler room its going to the too hot since winter is approaching and the heat is going to go on soo and i have a closet which i cant put the eggs in because i always go inthere for clothing...i checked my whole house...grrr any suggestions i was tol they need to be kept cool

I keep 8 of my eggs - the ones that aren't in an incubator - in a margarine container with some pinholes on top of a small lizard tank that I have. There's a small under the tank heater and a small lamp that gives a bit of heat on top.
My apartment never goes below 65 deg. and I don't know how high the temp is in the container during the day ... I'd guess around 80 - 82 deg. So far so good.
Apple ... don't you have a cupboard or a drawer that you don't use very often? Maybe just find some small spot and move all the stuff out of there and use that spot solely for your eggs!!

i have a spot under my shelf in my closet that i can take a lil balnket put it on the floor then put the container with the eggs on top of the blanket and then cover the container this way no light would go thru and i guess it will keep warm brandy said to keep them cool and she dosent lik to warm them up and she hatched these eggs before...so dave do you think that would be a good idea?

I really have no idea!! I would definitely go with whatever Brandy suggests to you as she's the experienced breeder. But you certainly need to find a spot where they won't get disturbed or knocked around and the temps will stay at least around the mid 70's.
