Info on FEMALE Jacksons

Hey All,

I just rescued a female jackson from petsmart less than a month ago. She was way to beautiful to let her get sick in their hands so I decided to take her. The worker assumed she was a yr old which I highly doubt.
I do have previous experience with a Male Jackson that is healthy as can be at 1 YR AND 3 MO.

I had a few questions on My female Jackson.
What are average temps?
do they eat as often as males?
how many attempts to breed would be considered far too many?

Temperature wise, I would keep her the same as your male...

Typically she must be receptive before she can breed, but once she is I would house them together for a day or two. Or until shes had enough(starts showing stress).

BUT... Before you even put her near your male I would recommend quarantining her and get her check for parasites, and dewormed if neccesary. If she has any parasites they are most likely capablebof infecting your male.

Could you post a close up of her and a picture of her cage. I am trying to see what she is sitting on.

Yes, keep her like your male. You might want to drop the temps a degree or two, not more and cut back a cricket or two on the feedings...nothing extreme. While rare, it's not unheard of for female Jacksons' to drop "slugs"...

The idea that they bear live young is sort of weird...they hold eggs inside and deposit them when they are ready to hatch.

So, it's to your advantage to help her not create large numbers of "slugs" often.

Here is another pic. She is not as fat as other pregnant Chams. She is eating 1-3 crickets daily from what I can see. Her crickets are free range. She does drink off leaves during her morning, afternoon, and evening spray. I definitely will be getting more foliage for her to up the humidity to 60-70. Current temp is 80 with 50 humidity. :D

I keep my female Jackson in exactly the same environment (temp, humidity) as I keep my male. My male is a little bigger, so he eats 1-2 bugs more per day than the female. My female seems to eat consistently throughout the day while my male likes to eat a lot all at once. As far as breeding, I would separate them when she gets upset or is not receptive. Don't let them get too stressed out while attempting to breed.
The pet stores here often have Jacksons and it is so sad. They keep them in cages with substrate and nothing to climb on but the edges of a water bowl :(. If I could afford to pay $175 for a Jackson every time I saw one, I'd rescue them all. Thanks for getting her out of the pet store!!
