Avey Incubator.....

I do use a large cabinet incubator with a digital control made by Avey:

http://www.aveyinc.com/reptile_cabinet_incubator.htm

It's made specifically for reptile eggs. I don't have the egg boxes pictured. I put my plastic containers on the shelves. I have a lot of fluctuation in my house temperature through out the year. We also have a lot of power outages in the winter. The incubator, along with all the lizard cages through out the house, are on circuit breakers run by our generator. When the power goes out I just flip a control switch to go from electricity to generator power. Last year we were without power for a week in December. The house, in general, was down to 45 degrees but my lizards were all at their proper temperature in their cages and my hundreds of eggs were all safe and at the proper temperature in their incubator. Most people can do fine without an incubator. I just feel more secure having an even temperature in the winter and the ability to protect them easily during a power outage.

It's always nice to have a backup plan the way you have mentioned. You're doing it like a true breeder. You have your butt covered either way

i was looking at a generater the other day,i have gas heat downstairs and electric in the chameleons rooms im serious thinking i might get one soon.

That's "ahha ahahaha" $700 dollar freakin incubator. Kinda expensive. Did it pay for itself?

I've thought about breeding Ambilobes, but it seems like alot of work breeding, habitat, upkeep...business side, selling, clients, shipping...with alot of expenses to boot. No thanks.

Any of you resellers buy from small private breeders?

Most of you guys probably breed for fun...but you have to sell your off spring or have a chameleon mansion all in it's own.

It did pay for itself........

Actually, I think it did pay for itself when it kept my hundreds of eggs safe during a week long power outage in freezing temperatures. I've got lots of eggs from uncommon locales like Andapa, Diego Suarez, Ankaramy and Nosey Mitsio. The cost of two chams from any of those locales pays for the incubator :)

I'm jealous... I wish I had access to those in Ontario :(

Do you sell them to reseller breeders, do you sell them yourself on the private market, resell them yourself... or do you keep them all?

Not Selling..........

I'm not selling as a business at all. They are all for my personal enjoyment. Anything I have room for will be kept. Two Andapa have hatched so far. If the rest hatch I hope to find someone who will trade so I can mix up my bloodline. The same with anything really. Anything I don't have room for will be offered to people on the forum for a trade or for sale. I don't want any of my babies going to someone I don't know. Now I feel like my listing the locales I have makes me sound like a bit of a snob. I don't mean to sound like that at all. I was just trying to say that I felt I had to spend the money on the incubator to protect what I have in chameleon eggs.

Well....God bless you PardalisGirl. You are a true chameleon afficianato. You have to respect that!

I didn't take it as snobbish at all...it actually put your response into context so we could understand where you're comming from. :)

$700 bucks aint' much if it's your passion. All I have to do is relate it to my KTM motorcycle and aftermarket stuff...or my Gibson Guitar which cost me nearly $2k...and I "get it".

Gotta run to work ...:)
