If/then question

If my chameleon can handle full grown crickets with no problem, would it be okay to try to feed full size superworms? The local petstore only has the big ones, and I'm dying to give them a try. Just curious if Kush was ready for them. Thanks!!

I give full grown supers to my female panther, so I believe it's ok for a male veiled, but how old/big is he?

If Kush is only two months, I'd definitely hold off, and I'd stop with the adult crickets as well.

He's 3.5 months. He crushes the crickets with no problem. I am going by the 'space between his eyes' rule. I think he's a bit bigger than normal, as well. When I see pics of other 3 month olds, they look a lot smaller than him. He's an eating MACHINE, though!

I think that's a bit too early, I would wait few more weeks (IMO).
When it comes to worms you don't have to stick to 'space between his eyes' rule. They can be slightly bigger, but make sure he doesn't have problems with swallowing them.

Be careful with those superworms once you decide to feed them to Kush. You will have an addict on your hands before you know it.

It is fun feeding the superworms though. All if my chams immediately attack them when placed on the screen, and my panther won't look twice at any other bug I try to hand feed, but will steal any superworm out of my hand as soon as I open the cage.

They love the freshly molted ones the best. Since they should only have a few to avoid dependancy, I only feed the freshly molted ones. Also, superworms are super easy to keep and last forever, so you should just order some small ones and they will grow as your cham grows.

Superworms? Definitely. At first I misread "hornworms" and I was going to tell you to wait but superworms should be fine if your guy is mowing down on adult crickets. Especially if he's big for his age. I think Daedalus, who was a decent sized panther, started eating superworms at about that time as well, while my others who remained smaller might have waited another month or two.

Give him one and see how it goes. But I don't think you'll have a problem.

Let me correct myself. The word I mean is "probably," not necessarily "definitely."

If he's big enough to eat large crickets I think he's probably going to have no trouble eating a superworm. But it's incorrect of me to assume he will 100% be able to. I don't know your chameleon, only you do, but from my own experience I've had panthers that weren't very old or very big that could eat superworms without trouble.

I started at that age, I always use a needle and poked a couple holes to help with digestion and crush their jaws to avoid any chance of being bitten. Just be careful about how often your giving them, superworm addiction is a slippery slope. It start's with just one little superworm, next thing you know he'll be dealing cricket crack to the crix to support his addiction !

haha I'll have to take him to SA meetings.

I just really want to start trying hand feeding with him. I want to try to get him a little less afraid of me. I thought worms would be the easiest thing to handfeed, since every time I've tried with a cricket, it's escaped!
