Problem:
Hey there! I am a new chameleon owner, I have a young male veiled. We've had him here since October 2013 and he's done great - thriving and growing up until about 2 weeks ago.
He's not opening his eyes! I took him to the reptile guy in town and got absolutely no information.. Just drops for his eyes and advice to just feed him and hope for the best. (The drops are Tobramycin 0.3% its antibiotic and I give him one to twp drops in each eye every 4 hours.)
Problem is he is not eating, not drinking.
I found some information on a breader in town and he has been helping me, telling me different things to try. He also referred me to this site.
I bought him a new light, I was using a 100 watt UVB under the impression that's what he needed - I just learnt that can cause light sensitivity. I am leaving the UVB off now regardless of the change for a couple weeks to help him adjust.
I also just added a live plant to help with humidity.
His temperatures are good & he is hydrated.
But he is starving!! I feed him through a syringe using my pinky to coax his mouth open. I'm wondering if this is okay? I apply little to no pressure and after his feeding today he wound up with black spots!! One on his eye and one under his neck!!!??
I'm very worried and just need some advice. As I said, this is my first chameleon and I was under the impression I had everything I'd need for him. I was also told they were EASY to care for and now I'm undereducated and feel really bad for this poor little guy.
I guess I'm asking for your experience here, how normal or abnormal it this? And the safest way to tube feed him, If thats what i should be doing?
