I Have Been Told A Few Different Things, I Need Someone Who Has Panther Chams To Please Help Me!!! I Have A Rainbow Panther Cham An Ambanja I Believe......his Enclosure Is 18/18/32h....i Was Using A 100 Watt Ceramic Heat Bulb For Heat, And A 10.0 Uvb Coil Bulb For Uvb.....i Was Told That These Were Both Bad And I Should Use A 5.0 Uvb Tube And A Normal Household Bulb For Heat....is This True??? What Is Wrong With The Red Heat Bulb???

I Have Been Using A 75 Watt Red Heat Bulb For My Veiled For Quite Sometime And She Has Been Fine (almost A Year).....if It Is True That These Are Not Good Please Let Me Know!!! I Dont Want To End Up Harming My Beautiful Creatures And I Would Really Appreciate Any Feedback From Panther Cham Owners As To What I Should Exactly Do........anyhting Else Like Tips Or Any Tricks Or Anything Else You Would Like To Let Me In On I Would Be More Than Glad To Hear!!!

Thank You Guys So Much, And This Is An Amazing Site........keep Up The Kick A** Work!!!

coil bulb or compact bulb UVB has problem that can cause conjunctivitis to your chameleon.
While ceramic heat can cause burn.

Hey, you should go with a 5.0 reptisun and a regular house bulb (i use an 85w) for basking.. coil bulbs are said to cause eye problems in chams, so they say.. people on this forums would recommend the reptisun because its safe and effective...

thank you

so 10.0 is too much? and wat temp is your basking spot??? is it just one basking spot? and what temps in rest of cage???

another question is kinda off topic but are real plants better and fake ones??? like for the chameleons sake and drinking water off them...are real ones better to have???

sorry but what is conjunctivitis??? what does it do and what are some signs, cause i have used coil for my veiled for about a year!!! now im worried.....and also does the uvb get through the mesh on cages well mine is like a vivarium i think like plasticky burn proof mesh!!!

The coiled (compact) UVb lights have been causing eye issues to include blindness, conjunctivitis (your cham would be keeping one or both eyes closed, there could be seepage or crusty eye issues-you would know if you chameleons had this.), or even sometimes burns and death. Ceramic bulbs put out heat and no light-chameleons associate the light with the heat. Red bulbs cannot be seen by the chameleons either, so a standard household bulb works great here. Most keepers recomment the Zoomed Reptisun 5.0 flouresent linear tubes as a UVB source.

10.0 is good when you have a really tall and well planted enclosure. I use that for my male that is in a free range habitat \. He has about 7 feet up to climb around and about 4 feet by 4 width and depth. For smaller enclosures 5.0 is ideal although thick screen can filter out a lot of the uvb. For plants real are better they help humidity and they look better for you. You should post a pic of your cham so we can tell what it is. Here is a link to a thread about what the rainbow means or could mean. https://www.chameleonforums.com/rainbow-panthers-8965/
