Yesterday I bought a Yemen Chameleon as a baby, I don't know how old he is or anything and I've got all the lighting correct and the heat is all good, I just have some questions right now.
1. How do I get him to take his calcium? just put it on his food? and does it help that his food alive or dead?

2. He is not coming on to my finger, he came on today in the morning as he was basically stuck on the roof of his vivarium and he came onto my finger when I got him out of his box from the shop.

3. Can I keep a male and female in the same vivarium if they're from the same shop?

Thank you!

hi and welcome :)

congrats on your new addition.
yes you lightly dust his food before you feed him.what suppliments are you giving.i only ask as you only mentioned calcium?

i say either really but alive is best imo.i give my boy the odd dead one but i dont make sure there all dead.

you are new to him and he is scared.everythings new to him so please dont expect him to come on to your finger.you should leave him to settle and just feed and mist his cage for the next few weeks.after a week or so once a day feed him from your hand.if he shys away close the cage and try again the next day.

he came onto your finger because it was a way out of the box.

patience is key and he needs time to settle.dont force anything as you will just make it harder for him to trust you.

no you cannot just keep a male and female together.
only in breeding cases and then they dont stay together.

what are your temps also?

please take a look at all the care sheets on this site.you are in the best hands.there are some fantasic chams keepers here that will be here to help you along the way.
ive only had my cham for coming up 4 weeks but i done 2yrs worth of research before i purchased one.

When I bought him, they gave me Calcium +D3 for and said I should give it to him every week or so!

And I was worried because I thought he didn't like me, but I'm glad it's only down to time and patience and he'll start coming on to my finger, thank you for the reply!

that information you have been given is incorrect.
he needs calcium without d3 every feed - but do not give this on the days you give the other 2.
calcium with d3 twice a month
and multivitamins twice a month

just a few other questions if that ok as if you have been given the wrong information about the supplements then his enclosure may not be correct.
just making sure thats all.
how old his he and how long have you had him?
what uv are you using
what are his temps and how are you measuring them?
also whats the humidity and are you misting his enclosure?

can you post a pic of him and his setup??
xx

I only got calcium D3 and nothing else, should I get more? and when I was in there, I was told nothing about the heating apart from it should be house temperature warm, which he is apart from at the night so I think I'm going to get a heat pad, and I'm using the 5.0 UV that they gave me
and I'm spraying his enclosure if that's what you mean? well it might be misting but I don't know the correct terminology.
I don't know how old he is, I've had him for a day and I don't know the humidity and I don't know how to find out, hopefully people on this site can help me!
and I put him next to my radiator so he can be warm at night.

he needs a basking spot to warm up and help digest food.his basking spot needs to be 85f as i believe hes under 9 months and measured with a digital thermometer and the probe needs to be placed under the basking spot around 8inches below the bulb

his ambient needs to between 72f- 80f

i have 3 thermometer probes.1 measures the basking spot.another measures the middle and another to measure the bottom.
theres no need for a heat pad.the temp at night can drop to 55f.if it gets lower then a ceramic heater would be needed.

d

i use a komodo digital hygrometer and place it in the middle.make sure you spray at least 3 times a day and make sure his home completely dries out before you mist him again and before you turn his lights out at night.
i normally soak up anywater thats on the bottom with a towel.
the uv you have is fine.

dont take this badly but his home is pretty poor.

he needs a bigger home with more vines, plants etc.he should be higher too.

heres mine

So shall I get the calcium and the hygrometer?
and is everything else I'm doing fine?
and thank you, you've been a great help!

Yeah I know it is a bad spot, but right now I don't have the room for him unless it is there, but as soon as I can get the room and a bigger cage, I will buy him it all because they are great pets! I guess I could put him on my draws or something, I don't know, but I'll take your advice on that! I will defiantly get more vines and stuff!

take a look aorund some pet classifieds.you can pick up some second hand enclosures for cheap prices.please dont go back to the the pet shop who gave you all this incorrect information.

he needs his temps and supplements sorting asap and they cannot wait.all the info i have given you is important.

has he been a poo yet?
if so can you tell me how it looks?

Uh no not yet, he's pee'd, that was white with an orange tip so I've got him a bowl for his water

i have read that some like to drink from a bowl.do you see yours drink from the bowl?
how often do you change the water? as it can harbour bacteria.
having orange urates is a sign of dehydration.many chams like mine drink the droplets off the leaves when i mist.

going back to the supplements and temps and basking spot.when will this be corrected?xx

I'm going to wait till my mum finishes from work (I'm only 17) then I'm going to get money either today or tomorrow and buy the calcium it needs and the temp thing and I will let you know!xx

fantastic!

just make sure you get calcium without d3 & multivitamins.
and a spot bulb either 40w or 60w shall do .i have mine on a dimming thermostat.i couldnt be without it but some people dont use them but i do as it keeps my temps between the right measurements and stops the viv overheating.you will need to play around to get temps correct and also get a digital thermometer.2 would be good so you can measure the ambient temp too.you can get double probe thermometers also.

the multivitamins i use are zoo med reptivite.i also use zoo med calcium without d3 too.

please read the caresheet too! xx
