I tend to use the simple inexpensive ones from China; they've been reliable within advertised tolerances (±1%)

The way I know is by comparing them against others I have or borrow from other folks for testing. If they're all within 1-2% or degrees, I know they're working fine. If 5% or degrees off, something isn't right.

I don't keep busted ones. I have a ton of thermometers around the house—all ±1°
If they were all wonky, chances of them all being off by the same amount would be... extremely unlikely.
However, there are methods... how to tell if a thermometer is correct?
Yeah same here the govee has very good reviews. I understand your frustration as I always used komodo the temps are fine between the 2 but 15% humidity dif.
