Hi.. I have a juvenile veiled cham. Im having a problem on how to lower the humidity level. He's in a screen cage with the size of 36x36x24 with live plants.
Any idea on how to lower it? Its about 70-75% now. The temp is 80.. Btw, im in the Philippines.. Thanks!
I am curious to the screen cage. 36"X36"X24" is an odd size for screen enclosure. Are you sure it isn't glass, which would explain the high humidity. Also, I believe the Phillipines is naturally high in humidity. This may be hard to correct. You may have to invest in a dehumidifier.
I made the cage myself out of pvc pipes and screen. Theres no substrate. Im also using monsoon mister. Maybe ill change the live plants to fake once since the soil may add to the humidity factor. Im checking now around my place if i can find a "dry" place where i can relocate my cage. Ill also check the dehumidifier. Thanks!!!!!
Is it a dial type or digital with a probe? The dial ones, sometimes stick and give you an inaccurate reading.
If it's a probe, could it be getting hit with overspray and giving you a bad read out from getting wet? Does the humidity change in between mistings? How often does the mister go on? Maybe you can play with the settings and find a happy medium.
Sorry for misspelling Philippines. MelissaB, I thought of the mechanical vs the digital gauge. If you know anything about their weather, gauge type won't matter. It is horribly humid there. But you are right.
Im using exoterra hygrometer.. And monsoon mister.. I noticed that everytime i mist(every 2hrs for 8secs) the humidity level goes up to 85% lowest was 70%.. When i stopped misting this afternoon, i went back to 70%.. So i guess ill try the dehumidifier and shift to fake plants to obtain the 40% humidity as required.
I can only imagine what the weather over there is like. Hopefully the dehumidifier does the trick. We have one in our basement, and it makes a very big difference.
At this time of the year(rainy season), our temp usually at low of 72f , high of 90f... Summer season starts feb-may and its up to 95-98f.. i can control the temperature by adding fan or cooling system but the problem is its too humid here! Ill try the dehumidifier and hopefully ill achieve the right percentage.
