How to tell what branches are safe

I went on a walk behind my house and got an arm full of branches but not know where they came from or what they are is there a way to tell what ones i should use and what ones i should put back outside?

If they have sap, don't use them, if they are hard to grip, I wouldn't use them. I also wouldn't use them if there are any sharp edges you can't get off.

Let them dry in the sun for at least a day also.
