Just wondering just in case I ever got another BB ambilobe cham later down the road from my cham store in my town. I recently got my lil girl Faith from there and I was wanting to know how to tell the difference between a male and female at a young age. Before the spurs grow in.
Spurs only occur on veiled chams. To sex a panther can be difficult especially at such a young age (especially 2 mos)
But boys will have a small bulge at the base of their tale, or space (like a flap of skin) where one would grow.
Girls have a smooth tail base.
I wouldnt relay on colour, in my experience my little boy Oliver throws very weird female colors even though I am 1000000% sure he is a boy XD
I just posted a couple pics in this thread that show the profile of a 2.5 month old male and female. The thickness of the tail base just after the vent toward the end of the tail is what you look at to tell male/female. Males will be thicker. https://www.chameleonforums.com/sexing-panther-ambilobe-chameleons-93209/
Thanks! gathered as much knowledge as possible and took my girl back to the breeder and I had to try and choose a male out of the bunch since the breeder wasn't in. Any thoughts?
And yes thats a piece of poop hanging out his butt. I don't know if he was trying to poop upside down or what, but I can get a better shot later on if you guys think it obstructs the picture to much.
And trust me, that was the hardest thing taking that girl back. I was honestly afraid to try and deal with egg laying I just thought it would be probably better for the both of us to go our seperate ways...she didn't really like me either lol.
But this lil guy as soon as he saw me he started waving his hands in the air trying to get out of the tank! He instantly started running up and down my arm, I love him already lol. He's so social to! He doesn't hide around the bottom of his cage like the other girl did (It was 4 days into having her and she was still hiding, never basking, never saw her eat from her cup. Was stressing me out! This guy got right to it though.)
