How to "start an umbrella" plant?

How would you guys go about "starting" an umbrella plant?

I routinely cut the tops of the plant , ( about 3 inches with at least 2 branching leaves) and stick it about an inch or two into water . Keep it in a well lit area and you should have a root system formed and ready for transplant to soil in about 3 to 4 weeks

Thanks for the advice so it is mostly like starting a vine plant
