How to Clean Roach Bin?

Hi y'all I just got a roach colony set up (courtesy of maxttu :D) and I was just wondering... When the time comes, how do you clean your roach bin? Thanks

Get an extra tub and shake the roaches off of the egg crates into the tub. Dump the frass out of the dirty tub and clean. Done! ;)

Buy two 5gal buckets from your local big store, drill appropriately sized holes in ONE (1) bucket, shake roaches into the bucket with holes, shake like h3ll and repeat until done. Check out YouTube. Lots of fun vids on there! ;)

I use three, 2 gallon buckets. 1st one collects all the adults, second one collects all the nymphs, last one collects the frass and other junk. Occasionally ill get a few small nymphs in with the frass but it only takes a couple minutes to sort through it.
Ill get some pics for ya real quick....

Like so.....
Just stack, dump the roaches and frass in, then shake like hell! :p

what size holes are in the tubs??

Depends on what size roach you're wanting to separate. Small enough that the adults won't fall thru and big enough for the small/mid sized nymphs to fall they. Start with a smaller size hole and adjust accordingly. My 1st setup I drilled too big and some of the adults were squeezing thru. You'll figure it out pretty easily.

Wear a dust mask!!!! I developed an allergy to dubias after having them for 2 years. Not fun....

Oh no! That's terrible! I visited with a LPS owner and she told me that she was highly allergic to all roaches. Needless to say, she wasn't interested in buying any of my dubs... ;)

Yep roaches and mealies are the two most common feeder allergies... Mealworms only really get ya sick if you breed them. But roaches, heck ya you'll get sick from them after a while! I heard from Kmw that if you spray the tank a few minutes before working with them it keeps the dust down.

Good to know! So far I'm ok with the allergy stuff... ;)

I use the buckets to get the sizes I need but I cut them out on the cleaning part. I just screened the whole bottom of the tub and put the tub on a backers sheet and once a week shake all the poo threw it works good for me and the babies can't get out. And for the extra molts that don't get threw the screen take your bin outside and get a can of canned air and just blow the bin the molts go flying out.
