How to breed crickets etc.

Tried searching the forum im not very good at searching i guess but How can i breed these little guys to last me quite awhile. Are there any other bugs i can breed and feed it? are outdoor bugs ok?(ive been reading they are fine) I just dont know how to go about breeding the crickets if anything

I dont know how to breed but as for other feeders, alot of people on here use dubia roaches as regular feeders (esp when their chams go off crickets) and I know people breed them too. You can also breed silkworms and hornworms, but again, no clue on how to do it.

Blaptica Dubia

I just started a Dubia colony and they pretty much will do their part on their own. Just provide a warm area, big container, hiding places (egg containers), food and water. It may cost a little to get started. I bought 20 females and 5 males (80 cents a piece). Some of the females already gave birth (live birth, no eggs, nice!), I think it takes like 28-30 days with the right temp for the females to reproduce so that is not bad. You always have a different age group of nymphs, juvenile nymphs, and adults. Just dont feed your females. . Very easy! I went with a 1 to 4 ratio of male to female ( I started with 20 females), I think this may be wrong as I have seen 1:8 and 1:10 ratio of male to female. I see baby nymphs all over so they are producing and I really dont have to do anything but feed and water occasionally. I'm not sure on the amount but they have a better calcium to phosphorous ratio than a cricket. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/bandung/roaches/dubiacare.html (Males have noticeable wings). If you start one get a bunch of juvenile nymphs (mine were .10 a piece) with the adults so you have feeders and soon to be adults (reach adulthood 4-5 Months) This site says females give birth every 2 months???

If you have an incubator it works best but there are other ways to keep them warm, heating pads , heating tape etc... I use a hovabator that I got from LLLreptile for like 40 bucks I put like 20 adult crickets or so in a plastic Tupperware with a smaller Tupperware inside filled with very moist organic potting soil, put some dry gut load and water crystals in there and a piece of egg carton. Put them in the incubator for 5 or 6 days @between 86 and 92 degrees, make sure to open the top every so often for ventilation. Then after five days, take out the adults and leave the soil and food and crystals. Within two weeks you should have a bunch of pinheads that you can then transfer to a larger rubbermaid with holes cut out and aluminum screen hot glued on for ventilation.
