How often do you handle your cham?

I have a 9mo. old male panther . He doesn't like to be handled very much . He tries to hide when i put my hand in the cage and he just barely tolerates being held , sometimes hisses at me . Do they ever grow out of this ? I try to handle him every 7 to 10 days just to keep him used to me for cage cleaning and vet visits. I am very gentle in handling him so its not an issue of him associating me with being hurt. Any advise ? And how often and what kind of cham do you have.

7 to 10 days is fine.

https://www.chameleonforums.com/how-handle-chameleon-18438/ those are some videos on how to handle them.

Also, if you are having problems getting him out of the cage put a sock (clean of course) over your hand and try to get him to start walking on it by putting it under him. My veiled has the same problem, I usually only handle him about once every 2 weeks or so.

My only advice would be not to handle him at all for fear of extreme stress (since he seems so uncomfortable with it), and wear gloves when it is necessary to take him to the vet or clean his enclosure or do a visual exam on him.

I never handle my chameleons unless I have to. I have (at the moment) four panthers and one Meller's. I have one male panther that seems to enjoy human attention, and I rarely even handle him, only for visual examinations and to put him in a huge ficus tree in my dining room.

I only handle my veiled when she lets me. Sometimes when I am feeding her she'll crawl out onto my arm. I suppose she is thinking this is the best and fastest was to get to the food. Then as soon as she crawls out onto me I put her back in her enclosure right away.
