I've finally succeeded in getting a breeding between my newly imported graciliors. The male is young. He only weighed 25g when I bought him a few days after he was imported the first week in February. He's over 50g now.
He's been a little aggressive when I introduced the female into his enclosure. At one point, he had her on her back while he tried to gore her before I was able to get to her and rescue her. I felt she was receptive, so I put him in her cage and got two matings today. After each breeding, I put him back in his cage.
How many times a day should I try to get a breeding? Because of his past aggressive behavior towards her, I will not leave him with her unless I am watching. I think it is just adolescent male stupidity, but I just won't trust him. (I've seen really aggressive behaviors from young cockerels towards hens before they sorted themselves out so I gave him the benefit of the doubt.)
How many breedings should I try to get? Thanks for any input.
