How Is He Looking?

Some pictures of my yemen Chameleon taken about 5 mins ago. He is about 5/6 months old now. Does he look about right for his age? He is my first cham so paranoid about whether he is as he should be!

This is him when i got him mid December. I was told he was about 9 weeks here:

He gets about 8-10 crickets a day. I have recently (last week) upgraded him to some bigger crickets as although he was eating loads he looked a little thin to me (i dont know if he is or not, i just thought he was) and i think it may have been cos he was on smaller crickets.

This is the size he is having now:

That size is perfect for him, and he should be having 8-10 daily that are well gut loaded.

He does look a little thin in the arms, but that should fill out quickly with larger food.

If you were feeding small crickets, then he would have to eat probably 16+ to get what he needs. With these larger ones 8-10 should be perfect.

I notice in the video your cage is very sparse. Though he is from Yemen, most of the areas they come from are well vegetated. You will need to add either some live or fake plants.

The stems he is walking on seem a bit thin.

http://lllreptile.com/store/catalog...arium-accents/-/exo-terra-jungle-vine-medium/ x 3 should provide plenty of size appropriate chameleon walk ways.

http://lllreptile.com/store/catalog...nd-terrarium-accents/-/72-inch-tropical-vine/ x 2 should fill out the cage with hiding spots and places to drink very well.

You are using proper lighting?

Repti sun 5.0 linear tube bulb with hood

separate basking light?

I see the cage is screen, well done.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info, that is much appreciated!

I bought several live plants online and they turned up much smaller than i expected lol So he does have a few but as his cage is so tall and the plants are at the bottom they dont come up high enough for him to climb on yet, i will look into buying a bigger one for him, and some bigger vines :) When i bought him i was told to have thin branches for him to grip easily, but i guess he has grown a lot lol

He has a UV striplight across the top of the viv and a basking light above his favourite branch (the one he climbs into in the vid). His cage is in a rather dark corner of the room, im planning to move him into my spare bedroom soon where the cage will be infront of the window so he will get more natural light too :)

The crix he was having before were about half the size of the ones in that vid so i guess they were much too small! Poor Dennis lol Will feed him up now :)

The branches should be large enough for him to get a good textured grip, the ones in the video appear to small, especially is his foot goes all the way around them at any point.

Appropriately sized footholds

Size and health wise, he is looking very well though

just needs to fill out a bit more.

Thank you Beeze!

One thing that i am quite proud of is how sweet and tame he is! He went through a really grumpy phase about a month or so ago but with a bit of patience he is now back to loving being handled :)

Thats brilliant, the pics are really helpful as it is so much easier to get an idea of what i should be doing from looking at other peoples set ups, so thank you for that :) I will get him some new branches and plants asap!

Also think about adding to your feeders. He should be getting about 3 different kinds at least. Add some hornworms, & silkworms to his diet and he will really fill out quickly. they also help hydration. You can still use crix but just mix it up a bit. I give my guy some crix first then give him 2 horns every other day as treat items when we work on hand feeding.
