My veiled just laid her first time bout month ago she now seems to be gaining waight again. Is it common or even posable to lay asecond time so soon. I believe i had read somtin on this before but canot find it again.
Correct me if I’m wrong, someone will probably know better than I. However, I know female panthers will retain male sperm post copulation and in some cases produce a second clutch of eggs after the first… usually within a short period of time. Female panthers and female Veileds differ however, in the process in which they breed and produce eggs so I can’t say this is the case for both species. If someone could clarify that would be great. To that end I’ll ask if you have recently bread her or was the last clutch infertile (not bread with a male)?
Alternately your female could just be recovering well and is starting to put some weight back on, which is a good thing.
Yes she was bread and am certain they are all fertile. They are all very white and geting slightly larger.
My bigest concern is she showed no signs of wanting to lay first time. She had a huge layin container nut wouldnt set foot into it she paced the top not the botom
So am just looking at how posable second is, so i can try her in a large tote every so often do to her not liking her cage at all for layin.
It is actually common for healthy chameleons to double clutch and sometimes triple clutch. Also a female will go down when she is ready, just make sure an egg laying area is available. Normally the second clutch is about a month and a half after the first clutch.
