• Your Chameleon – Veiled Chameleon, 1 y.o., male, bought one week and one day ago.
• Handling – 1 – 2 times daily for short periods. Starts out hissing and headbutting then calms down and has fun climbing. I never keep him out for long but enough to keep him socialized.
• Feeding – Crickets, depending on size 5 – 10/day (large only a few), in the a.m., feeders get Flukers orange cubes, orange peel, tomato, potato, dark greens, green beans, whatever I have fresh on hand. Also gets live mealworms occasionally which he loves – eats out of my hand.
• Supplements – 5 times a week feeders are dusted with Exo Terra Calcium + D3, 1 x week dusted with Rep Cal Herpivite with Beta Carotene.
• Watering – Tried everything but found success today with Big Dripper turned to a steady stream (not a drip). He ran right over and started gulping – first time in a week
• Fecal Description – Not tested yet but going to exotic vet this week for check up, fecal is well formed, dark with white.
• History – Bought at pet store so no history. Supposedly had him since very young but who knows?
Cage Info:
• Cage Type – Started with glass tank recently changed to wire cage 18” x 18” x 36” (see pic)
• Lighting – Lights go on around 6am, Exo Terra UVB 100w and Zoo Med 60w bulb for warmth in Zoo Med Mini Combo Deep Dome on top of cage with hard wire screen between cage and lamp. At 8pm, lights out completely.
• Temperature – 2 thermometers – one at top and one at bottom with hydrometer. Down to 60 at night, during day around 75-80 degrees.
• Humidity – using fogger, mister, Big dripper to keep cage humid without becoming swampy. Hydrometer says it’s in the right zone.
• Plants – Mix of several live pothos and spider plants with a lot of artificial for climbing with vines, branches, etc. Is live eucalyptus okay for him?
• Placement – In bedroom, low traffic, no vents, fans.
• Location – New York
My issue is that I bought a lot of loose large crickets the other day from an exotic pet supply and my chamo doesn't eat them. They crawl all over him - even his face and still nothing. He's now eating mealworms until I can get smaller crickets. Is he not eating them because they're too big?
Thanks!!
