Hornworms and Hornworm eggs

ok first question is about the hornworms. I know hornworms get big quick I'm just curious how long would it take for a baby hornworm to be full size? Also how many hornworms a day can I feed my 4 month old panther cham.

Now about the eggs how long can they be stored, how do they be stored and how do I hatch them? I'm interested in buying eggs so I can have a steady supply and not have to many get to big before I can feed them off.

With the temps getting cooler, the horns should start to slow down a little. In warm weather they can go from 1 inch to 3 inches in a week (not an absolute! ).
I personally feed a 4 month 1inch, but that's me. I don't feed really big feeders to any.

Pm Suzi about the eggs, she can give you that info!!

Hi Escalade,
Hornworms go from egg to full size in about 2-4 weeks (normally 3 weeks), depending on their diet and temperature they're kept at. I'm not sure how big your 4 month old cham is so it's hard to make an estimate on their diet, but usually one hornworm a day is plenty.

Eggs can't be stored. When you order them, we'll ship them, and they'll hatch pretty much the day they arrive. Hornworms take about 1-2 weeks before they are of a size where they can be handled, so they require some scheduling when planning on them to be fed to your animals.

If you'd like to order either, we'd love to help you out. You can check out Small Pet Feeders and let me know what questions you have :)

Like Dave said the eggs hatch right away and cannot be stored in the fridge like silkworms, I keep them in a small plastic tote lined with paper towel or freezer paper as they grow I put hardwood cloth over with there food on top, feed some and then pupate the rest to keep the cycle going. There is a great web sight with a lot of information for you www.manducaproject.com feel free tp pm me if you have any questions, Here is an old thread of mine when I first started my project you might want to look at https://www.chameleonforums.com/here-some-photos-my-hornworm-project-61159/

Good luck with your project!

I usually do have some small hornworms, 20 count cups. They'll be back up soon.

I'll be honest with you though, hornworms are a great feeder, just a little expensive to feed as babies, in my opinion that is. Silkworms would be much more better suited for a small chameleon, and cheaper.

Yea, then I would try the Teal hornworms, they tend to be a very good appetite stimulant for picky eaters. Have you tried B. Dubia Nymphs? These are very active feeders, so your cham might like them, and I could supply them in a small enough size for your cham I'm sure.

I've never tried the dubia nymphs I'll have to give them a shot, once my supply of crickets runs out I'll have to make an order with a few different types of feeders
