Hormworms

I bought hornworms at a show this weekend and they have doubled in size. I have two 1 year old veiled chameleons and 2 9 month old Jackson chameleons. My husband seems to think it will be fine to feed to them since they are soft. The hornworms are about 3-4" long. I originally bought them for my Panther that had to have his tongue removed from an injury, but I don't think he can chew them well so I'm hesitant to feed them to him. Any thoughts?

I have no idea but I hope somebody on here will give you some advice on this. hood luck with the hunt.

if you think they are to big, do not feed them - if your male panther is having a hard time, and his teeth are not effected by what happened to him, I doubt your little Jax can chew them up either - I have never had a Vel/ - so I don't know what size they would be, but I would just let them pupate, and start all over w/ eggs, or feed off the moth I had a cham choke on a silk - its not fun just my thoughts

yeah when in doubt probably dont. you have learned a valuable lesson though. hornworms grow stupid fast so if you buy them for a couple days of feeding buy them small. when my panther was 3/4 months i wanted to give him a worm so bad couldnt find them small enough but bought one i thought would be i think i was wrong as he started chewing i was like omg what have i done and cut it in half lol

Thanks for the response they are huge!!!! We are new to feeding different types of food so I though these woul dbe great, kinda saved them for my cham with the broken tongue because he can eat them on his own unlike crickets. However, I think they are much to big. Thank you guys for your input. Such a bummer, we will order the eggs next time to hatch so everyone can enjoy, they are a little pricey especially when i wasted over 1/2 of them.

let them pupate , its very easy - your panther will love the moths I bet- that way you are also not wasting them here is a GREAT link by pigglett79 on how to do so

agreed pupate them follow that blog full of knowledge been meaning to do so as well but been busy this summer. going to try now with silks and horns. everyone says keep feeding the moths. i swear my moth few months ago was bigger than any worm i had...

I don't think you're going to have a problem- I feed adult Veileds, Oustalet's, and in the past Jackson's - horned worms regularly. The are soft and easy for them to chew/ swallow, and high in protein, and they greatly enjoy them. I'm not sure about the nature of the injury to your panther, but for the rest of the chams you mention I would go for it-
